GRADUATE STUDENTS

Marta Isabel Pereira
MD

Marta-Isabel Pereira earned her Medical Degree from the University of Coimbra, writing her MSc thesis on mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphomas. She is a practicing physician, specializing in Clinical Hematology/Hemato-Oncology.

She is currently a PhD student in the Doctoral Program in Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. She is mainly focused on a translational approach to the main problems encountered in the treatment of the acute leukemias (low efficacy and high toxicity), through the development of nanotechnology-based chemotherapy delivery methods.

In addition to her clinical and research work, she is an assistant lecturer in Human Physiology and in Clinical Hematology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. 

Sofia Romano
 

Sofia Romano completed her BSc degree in Applied Biology from the University of Minho and her MSc degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Coimbra.

Currently, she is enrolled in the BEB PhD Program from the University of Coimbra and is developing her PhD Project entitled "Tumor Targeting of Nanobody-based platforms", in collaboration with the group of Dr. João Gonçalves (Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon).

Ana Cruz

Ana Cruz has a MSc degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences conferred by the Faculty of Farmacy of University of Coimbra.

Currently, she is a PhD  student at the Centre for Neurosciences and Cell Biology (CNBC), University of Coimbra.

Ana's major research interest is on ovarian cancer and hepatocarcinoma.

Mariangela Natale

Mariangela Natale comes from the University of Bologna.

She first undertook her bachelor’s degree in biology science (BS, Bologna) than she got a master degree on cellular and molecular biology (BMC, Bologna).

In 2014, she enrolled to the PhD program of the Marie Curie Action in Coimbra focus on the role of cancer associated fibroblasts in tumour expansion and invasion (CAFFEIN project) under the supervision of the Professors Raghu Kalluri and Joāo Nuno Moreira.

Joana Balça Silva

Joana Balça-Silva graduated in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP). She has a MSc degree in Biology from the same University and a post-graduation in Biomedical Research from Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra (FMUC).

Currently, she is a Ph.D student from the inter-university doctoral programme in ageing and degeneration of complex biological systems in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, in the field of Oncobiology.
